Creating stages where the next generation doesn’t just perform — they belong.
Cathy Nguyen is one of Western Sydney’s most passionate champions for emerging R&B, hip-hop, and soul artists — a grassroots builder, artist developer, and cultural connector dedicated to creating real opportunities where they don’t yet exist. As the founder of New Gen Artistry, Cathy has built a platform that turns overlooked talent into booked shows, thriving communities, and sustainable careers.
Launched in 2021, New Gen Artistry began as a simple mission: help great artists get seen. What started with Cathy managing one talented high school student quickly grew into a full-service agency spanning artist development, bookings, management, and live events, now recognised as one of Sydney’s most important platforms for new-generation R&B and hip-hop voices.
Unlike traditional agencies, Cathy’s approach is deeply hands-on and human. With a background in music education, she brings a mentor’s mindset to everything she does — guiding artists not just creatively, but personally and professionally. She’s known for helping artists build confidence, stagecraft, and career clarity, while teaching them how to navigate the business behind the music.
Her flagship event series, Red Rug Sessions, has become a cornerstone of the local scene — transforming warehouse spaces into sold-out nights of live R&B and hip-hop, and giving emerging artists the kind of production quality, sound, and care usually reserved for major acts. For Cathy, it’s the details that matter: the right rooms, the right energy, great sound, zero awkward gaps — because when the experience feels world-class, audiences treat local artists like stars.
Balancing life as both an educator and entrepreneur, Cathy has built New Gen Artistry from the ground up — often self-funding shows and opportunities simply to ensure artists are presented at their best. That grit, generosity, and belief in community has earned her trust across the scene, working with talents including
RISSA, Mason Dance, Elijah Yo, Jess Jade, A.Girl, and many more.
At her core, Cathy isn’t just booking gigs — she’s building ecosystems. Her mission is bigger than any one show: to create sustainable pathways, stronger representation, and a global future for Australian R&B and hip-hop artists.
As a mentor, Cathy teaches artists how to move with intention — how to build real-world opportunities, create unforgettable live experiences, develop their brand, and grow within community rather than chasing the industry alone.
